Why Jim Corbett for a Yoga Retreat? The Case for Wilderness and Practice

Yoga emerged from the forest. The rishis who developed the practice did not live in cities. They lived in the jungle, beside rivers, in the kind of silence that modern life has made nearly impossible to find.

Jim Corbett is one of the few places in northern India where that silence is still available. The Ramganga river runs cold and clear in front of Maatre. Sal forests cover the surrounding hills. At night, the stars are visible without competition. In the morning, the birds begin before the light.

A home within nature

Maatre has been designed around a simple philosophy: to live in harmony with nature, rather than disturb it. The intention was never to build a property in the jungle, but to create a home within nature, a space where one can slow down, reconnect and experience life in its simplest form.

This is not scenery. It is the environment in which yoga was designed to be practised. When the practice meets the right conditions, it deepens in ways that are hard to find elsewhere.

Getting here

Delhi to Ramnagar is about 250 km (around 5 hours) by train, bus or taxi. From Ramnagar, Maatre is 40 km (around 1.5 hours) by private taxi, in Village Marchula.
